Inverurie September 2009

Inverurie Station and Ex Loco Works. Saturday 19th. September 2009. The line from Inverurie to Elgin was closed due to trackworks and buses ran too and from Elgin, where trains continued to Inverness.

Along with seeing Inverurie station and what's left of the Loco Works I also enjoyed a walk along the (river) Don footpath and came across the railway bridge to the south of the station. It looked pretty rundown and needed a good coat of paint.

It was originally twin track but has been single tracked since the mid 60's. While the working (down) side is kept in repair the unused Up side looks a sad sight. However as double tracking is on the cards between Inverurie and Aberdeen the bridge should see a welcome upgrade in the near future.

I have fond memories working at Inverurie Loco Works and it is sad to see how much the area has been reduced. However, it looks as if the Loco Shed and some outside buildings are to remain on the nsite and the well-known outline of the Depot will remain well into the future.
